Ferrari Enzo: V12 Specs, Production Numbers and Flagship History

The Enzo Ferrari brought the company founder’s name to a new flagship introduced in 2002. It followed the F50, combining a larger naturally aspirated V12 with carbon-fibre construction, carbon-ceramic brakes and closely integrated electronic vehicle controls. Ferrari presented it during an era of exceptional Formula 1 success.

Why both 399 and 400 appear

Ferrari’s historical account states that the original series comprised 399 cars. A further example was built in 2005 as a gift for Pope John Paul II and auctioned for humanitarian relief. The figures describe different scopes: 399 for the original run and 400 when the additional charity car is included.

A bridge from racing to road cars

The Enzo’s Formula 1 influence went beyond the shape of its nose. Ferrari highlights carbon-fibre chassis and body construction, push-rod suspension, carbon-ceramic brakes and integration of vehicle controls with the driver interface. These systems make it a different proposition from the mechanically focused F50, even though both use naturally aspirated V12 engines.

Enzo, FXX and LaFerrari

The track-only FXX drew on the Enzo’s underpinnings but belongs to a separate programme. It is not a road-going Enzo trim level. In the flagship road-car timeline, the Enzo leads to LaFerrari and the arrival of hybrid assistance alongside V12 power.
