LaFerrari brought hybrid power to Ferrari’s flagship road-car line. Its naturally aspirated V12 works with the HY-KERS electric system, combining a high-revving engine with immediate electric assistance. Introduced in 2013, it followed the Enzo and established the hybrid direction later continued by the F80.

How the hybrid system works
HY-KERS recovers energy under braking and can store surplus engine torque as electrical energy. Electric assistance supports the V12 at lower revs, allowing the combustion engine to focus on high-rpm performance. Ferrari developed the hybrid system, active aerodynamics and vehicle controls together so that power delivery and aerodynamic balance work as one system.
Why 499 and 500 are both quoted
Ferrari originally planned 499 LaFerrari coupés. On 31 August 2016, the company announced an additional car to raise funds for people affected by the earthquake in central Italy. Consequently, 499 describes the original allocation; 500 describes the expanded coupé run. The Aperta is a separate open-top series and should not be added to the coupé figure without explanation.
